$8,000 New Home Buyer's Tax Credit and $6,500 Homebuyers Tax Credit

Did you know that the government is giving a $8,000 tax credit for all First Time Home Buyers until April 30, 2010. This is not a loan like the 2008 program but an actual tax credit. The basics of the $8,000 New Homebuyer Program: - You will get 10% of the home's purchase price up to $8,000 applied as a tax credit.
- Offer applies for all New Home Buyers or by definition of the IRS is someone who has not owned a residence within the last 3 years.
- This offer is good for all homes purchased from January 1, 2009 to April 30, 2010.
- Income limits have been raised to $125,000 for single taxpayers and $225,000 for joint taxpayers. Previously, they were $75,000 and $150,000, respectively.
- You must be under contract on your home by April 30, 2010 and you have 60 days to close to be eligible for the credit.
The basics of the $6,500 Current Homeowner Program: - You will get 10% of the home's purchase price up to $8,000 applied as a tax credit.
- To qualify, current homeowners must have lived in their home as their principal residence consecutively for 5 of the previous 8 years.
- Income limits have been raised to $125,000 for single taxpayers and $225,000 for joint taxpayers. Previously, they were $75,000 and $150,000, respectively.
- This offer is good for all homes purchased from January 1, 2009 to April 30, 2010.
- You must be under contract on your home by April 30, 2010 and you have 60 days to close to be eligible for the credit.
Military 1 Year Extension of the Homebuyer Credit Program: - Good for active Military who were deployed overseas in 2008 or 2009 for 90 days minimum. You will get an extra year to complete your purchase till April 30, 2011.
In addition to the $8,000 Federal Tax Credit, you can get a $1,800 Georgia Homebuyer Tax Credit. The great thing about this tax credit is that all buyers are eligible regardless if this is your first home purchase or not. What a great opportunity to buy and get up to a $9,800 Tax Credit! |
